Chapter 65

The flight to Dublin was a long one, but it was worth it.  When they arrived it was night, so they grabbed a taxi and went to their hotel for the night.  They were excited to finally start seeing the sights.  The ONLY thing in Ireland that really interested either of them was Stonehenge, and that could wait until morning.  Jake had heard that there was a big party that happened there every year that had just ended so he was on with the cleanup crews doing their job before he and his wife went to see that home land of his late grandfather.  As they showered for bed, they discussed their itinerary.  The next day or two would be Ireland.  Then, they would make their way to London.  From London, they were go to Germany and Poland to see the camps and the Holocaust museum; followed by a trip to Paris; then Spain to see Madrid, Barcelona and a couple other cities that caught Delilah’s eye; Italy to visit Rome, Venice, Pisa, and the isle of Sicily; then Greece to see Athens and a few other cities- including the isles of Crete and Lesbos.  The name ‘Lesbos’ made Delilah laugh and think of a not so nice joke about Jordan but she didn’t dare speak it.  Though Jordan wasn’t there, she would find out and then she might not be so happy with her sister in law and that was the last thing that Delilah wanted.

The next morning they went out and enjoyed Stonehenge.  The grounds were clean and pristine.  They were both sure to take LOTS of pictures so that they didn’t disappoint anyone when they got home.  There were pictures of the both of them together and individually.  They were serious and goofy.  Jake had even gotten permission to climb on top of one of the stone structures and strike a pose so that Delilah could take his picture.

Jake also had the brilliant idea to visit the Guinness plant.  He just had to be sure that he had something on his stomach before they went.  Good thing it was around dinner time that they took the tour.

As they toured the plant, Jake’s phone buzzed in his pocket.  His father was calling.  “Yeah, Dad?” he asked when he answered the phone.

“Are you two having fun yet?” David asked.

“Oh yeah, tons of fun.  I’m actually at the one place that’s every Irishman’s wet dream right now.”

“Oh really?  And where might that be?”

“Ask Mom if Grandfather Cartwright drank and if he did what his drink of choice was.”

“I hear you, Jake”, she said.  “It wasn’t often that he drank but when he did it was either Irish whiskey or Guinness genuine draft.”

“That’s where Lilah and I are right now.  We’re at the Guinness plant.  This place is wicked.”

“Be sure to get all the pictures you can”, David said.

“We will, Dad.  Don’t worry.  Delilah’s not going to let me leave without a bunch of pictures.”

“You got that right”, Delilah said with a laugh though she was only hearing Jake’s side of the conversations.

“You two enjoy yourselves and don’t worry about Miri.  She’s fine.  She’ll probably be walking on her own by the time you get back”, David said.

“That would not surprise me one little bit”, Jake laughed.  “It seems that I’ve passed the overachiever gene on to my daughter.”

---------------

After the conversation ended, David and Brie laughed.  “That boy’s a hot mess”, Brie laughed.

“Cut him some slack”, David said.  “At least he’s finally learning to relax.”

“That’s true.  I wonder what kind of pictures they managed to get at Stonehenge.”

“Knowing them, Delilah probably got him to do some pretty crazy shit like climb up on one of those monstrous things.”

“I highly doubt that it was solely her idea.  In the nearly two years that they’ve been together our son had become quite the daredevil.  I would NOT be surprised if they BOTH thought of it.”

“You know?  You’re right.  He’s not so serious all the time anymore.  He’s finally learning how to enjoy life and not fret over every little thing.”

“She’s been a good influence on him.”

“Much like you’ve been on me.”  He leaned in and kissed her softly.

Her head swam.  She looked over at their sleeping granddaughter.  “She’ll be out for the rest of the night.”

“That she will.  Did you have something in mind?”

“Yeah.  Take me upstairs and make love to me.  We haven’t been able to do that in months.”

“Are you sure your back can handle it?”

“There’s only one way to find out.”

He smiled and pressed his lips to hers once more.  She responded in kind, straddling his hips and showing him that she’d missed being with him by grinding her hips against him.  His mind instantly went back to their first night together.  They were in the exact same house, in the exact same room that started it all.  He did the only think he could think of- his hands gripped her thighs as he stood and carried her up the stairs.  After setting her down and stripping her of her clothes, he laid her on the bed, dropped to his knees, and lowered his mouth to her core.  It was time to see if she was still flexible enough to arch her back from hips to the top of her head.

---------------

As they lay in bed that night, Jake couldn’t help but wonder where they would be when they would conceive their son.  If we do conceive on this trip and it is a boy, I want to name him after Uncle Ben, but not directly, he thought.  Maybe Benjamin could be his middle name.

Delilah, who had been asleep in his shoulder, stirred.  “Jakey, are you still awake?”

“Yeah.  What’s the matter, baby?”

“We need to get some sleep.  We do have a flight to catch tomorrow morning.  Remember the tickets you got earlier for us to fly to London?”

“Yes, love, I remember.  I just can’t seem to sleep right now.”

She pushed herself up to rest on an elbow and looked lovingly into the face of her husband.  “What’s on your mind?”

“I had a strange dream the other night.  I can’t seem to stop thinking about it.”

“Really?  What did you dream about?”

“A little boy that looked just like me.”  Before he spoke, he recalled a conversation he’d had with his mother almost a year previous.  “I swear to this day that telling him saved his life.”  He knew that he needed to tell his wife about what he was seeing in his dreams.

“A little boy that looked just like you, huh?  Are you telling me that we’re going to have a son within the year?”

“If what my dreams keep telling me is true, then yes, and he’ll be conceived on this trip.”

She grinned deviously and slid on top of him, straddling his hips.  “Then maybe we ought to start trying to get pregnant again.”

He laughed.  “Your wish, my command, but we have one tiny little conundrum.”

“And what might that be, Doctor?”

“How am I supposed to take the lead with you in top?”

“Who said anything about you taking the lead?” she asked as she lowered her lips to his.  When their lips touched she took his hands and pinned them above his head against the pillows as her moved against him.  She worked him up until she was sure he was ready, then impaled herself on him; moaning softly as she did.  She was going to make sure that this night, and everyone after it, was a night for him to remember.

---------------

She had worn him out and he loved every minute of it.  He would remember that night for the rest of his life.

In his exhaustion, he dreamed again, and saw that same little boy… again.  Big brown eyes that would steal the heart of any woman and brown curls to boot.  He was a handsome little devil.  “What is your name?” he asked again.  The thought came to mind that he needed to dig further back into his mother’s side of the family to get his answer; that though in essence he would be naming the boy after his father’s brother, he would actually be naming the child after a close relative of his mothers that hadn’t lived a very long life.  He was to commemorate this young soul that had only lit up the lives of his mother’s family for a very short time before passing… and something told him that his mother had only just been thought of when the boy fell ill.

He jerked awake, his body covered in sweat and his breath coming in heaves.  “What the FUCK?” he said with a sigh.  “What the hell is going on here?” he said quietly as he carefully slipped out of bed to wash his face.  He splashed his face with cold water and dried it off with a clean white towel.  “I can’t worry about this right now.  Too much is going on right now.  I’ll mess with it when I get home.  I just want to enjoy my honeymoon.”

He sighed and went back to bed after putting his Star of David around his neck.  He needed the comfort the pendant always brought him when he was having strange dreams and inspirations like he had that night.  Once he was sure that he hadn’t woken his wife, he settle back into the bed and tried to go back to sleep.
